Guide to Setting Up a Steam News Monitoring Discord Bot with Animoca Minds
Monitor Steam's RSS feed and deliver daily news summaries to Discord or email—no code required.

Keeping your gaming community updated on Steam news no longer requires manual effort or coding skills. This guide walks you through setting up a no-code automation using Animoca Minds to monitor Steam's RSS feed and automatically deliver daily news summaries — either to a Discord channel or your email inbox.
The system connects three main components: Steam's RSS feed, the Animoca Minds AI platform, and your preferred notification channel. No programming is required; the AI agent handles monitoring, summarising, and posting on your behalf.
Why Use Animoca Minds for Steam News Monitoring?
Animoca Minds streamlines AI-driven automation, turning complex tasks like RSS feed parsing and scheduled posting into simple natural-language instructions. For gaming communities, timely updates on releases, sales, or patches can significantly boost engagement — without demanding developer resources.
Your automated agent can:
- Scan Steam's RSS feeds for new articles or announcements
- Generate concise daily summaries filtered by genre or keyword
- Post updates automatically to a Discord channel or send them to your email
- Adapt to changing preferences through simple follow-up instructions
Prerequisites
Before starting, make sure you have:
- A Discord server where you hold administrative or bot management permissions (required for Discord delivery)
- An Animoca Minds account
Step 1: Create and Configure Your Discord Bot
This step applies if you want updates posted to a Discord channel. If you prefer email delivery, skip to Step 2.
1.1 Create the Application
- Go to the Discord Developer Portal.
- Click New Application.
- Enter a name for your bot (e.g., "Steam News Monitor") and click Create.
1.2 Get the Bot Token
- In the left sidebar, navigate to the Bot tab.
- Click Add Bot (or Reset Token if the bot already exists).
- Copy the token and store it securely — you will need it when configuring your Animoca Mind.
1.3 Set Bot Permissions
- Go to OAuth2 → URL Generator.
- Under Scopes, select bot.
- Enable these permissions: Send Messages, Embed Links, and Read Message History.
- Copy the generated invite URL to add the bot to your server.
Security tip: Only grant the minimum permissions your bot needs. See Discord's bot permission guide for details.
Step 2: Set Up Your Animoca Mind
- Visit animocaminds.ai and sign in or create an account.
- Check your inbox for the welcome email from Animoca Minds (allow up to 5 minutes).
- Reply to start setting up a new Mind. Define:
- Name: e.g., "Steam Scout"
- Persona: e.g., "gaming news expert"
- Specialty: e.g., "RSS monitoring and Discord posting" or "Steam service availability and news summarising"
- The Concierge AI may ask clarifying questions. To speed things up, reply: "Create the Mind now."
- You will receive confirmation once your Mind is ready.
Step 3: Load the Steam Skill and Give Directives
-
In your conversation with the AI agent, instruct it to load the Steam skill:
"Load the artifact Steam_Web_API_v1"
If the artifact ID has changed, ask your Mind: "List available Steam artifacts."
-
If using Discord, share your Discord Bot Token with the Mind as a secure credential.
-
Provide your initial directives. Examples:
- "Give me daily news from Steam covering Action, Action RPG, and RPG games."
- "Let me know the Steam service status around the Hong Kong region."
- "Post a daily Steam news summary to my Discord channel every morning at 9am."
Step 4: Test and Customise
- Send a test instruction to your Mind:
- Discord: "Generate a sample Steam news summary and post it to my Discord channel."
- Email: "Generate a sample Steam news summary and email it to me."
- Check your Discord channel or inbox for the update.
- Refine by adding filters — e.g., "Only include news about games tagged 'Souls-like' or 'Open World'."
- Your Mind retains instructions across sessions, so updates are cumulative.
